Provides direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a registered nurse and/or physician.  Assist patients with activities of daily living care, provides comfort and promotes patient safety, in a clean and healthy environment. Competency will be maintained in accordance with criteria defined by the National Association of Health Care Assistants.

Provides general nursing care such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients, transferring patients and assisting patients with ambulation.

Notifies Registered Nurse if patient complains of pain, or nausea and vomiting

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

Obtains patient specimens using OSHA standards using proper hand hygiene techniques; delivers specimens to the laboratory; retrieves x-ray films, etc.

Assists the Registered Nurse and/or physician with sterile procedures; ensures sterile supplies are available.

Prepares patients for meals; serves and removes food trays and assists with meals or feeds patient if necessary.

Answers patient call lights, makes hourly rounds to assigned patients.

Orients new staff members to the patient care unit.

Assist the Registered nurse in the ER, when needed

Other duties as assigned


  • High School graduate or equivalent. Additional specialized training in nursing care.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification within three (3) months of hire date.
  • May require certification as a Certified Nurse Technician (CNT) in the state of Texas.
